I’m a farm writer and agriculture journalist with decades of experience writing articles, thought leadership pieces and related content that appeals to farmers, ag industry professionals and the general public. My primary focus these days is on field crops (cereals, oilseeds, pulses), plant breeding and agricultural research. I’ve also written many features about horticultural crops. Potatoes are a particular favourite, but I’ve never met a vegetable I wasn’t interested in telling the world about. Ditto for fruit.
Over the years, I have written countless feature articles as well as sponsored content pieces and columns under my own byline and as a hired pen for thought leaders in the ag industry. I recently added research summaries and technical documents to my list of services.
Freelancing means that I have experience working with many editors. My clients primarily consist of Canadian agriculture publishers, grower-led organizations and industry associations. I have also amassed decades of experience interviewing farmers, agronomists, research scientists, politicians, CEOs and just about everyone in between. Most of my work is informed by the latest science and incorporates the insights of those who did the research and/or those who benefit from it.
Ultimately, my job is to create clear, concise content that transforms complex ideas into engaging narratives. I produce high-quality drafts that require minimal editing and pride myself on my ability to hit deadlines and word counts. And while I default to Canadian Press (CP) style, I also have a bookshelf full of style guides that I’m happy to use and can conform to in-house guidelines.
